The Heckling Fad

September 14, 2009

Let’s hope its just a fad, but heckling seems to be all the rage these days.

From out of control “town hall” meetings on health care, to Rep. Joe Wilson’s infamous outburst, to Kayne West’s stunt at last night’s VMA’s.

What’s the world coming to? Is it cool to interupt people and insult them? Apparently in some quarters.

Not in mine!

Repairs to Live 3

September 2, 2009

Live 3 mast repair

Live truck 3 is out of commission this week after an aerial fender bender last Friday night at the Hanahan-Cane Bay football game.

We planned to broadcast live from Hanahan since this was our game of the week for the first weekend of the high school football season. But mother nature had other plans. She was not a football fan.

Heavy rain and lightning forced us the cancel the live shots for our evening newscasts. For safety reasons, we cannot broadcast when there’s lightning in the area.

The photographer headed back to the station, but didnt realize he hadn’t secured part of the microwave transmitting equipment on the top of the truck.

The rest, they say, is history. Fortunately, no one was hurt and the truck received no major damage.

But we did have to park it this week, until our engineering team could make the necessary repairs.

WCSC has one of the largest fleets of remote broadcasting vehicles in the lowcountry, so we weren’t without live trucks. We never like to have one out of commission for too long, because in this business you never know when you’re going to need it.

Good ol’ live 3 will be back on the road in time for this Friday’s football games!
